Jack's Rock
On a recent dive Jack, Sallie and Tim came across a huge meatball of Demoiselles
which schooled around us seemingly unconcerned about our presence. |

Fun Dives |
East Coast and Smokehouse Bay |

|
We had some great dives last Sunday, the weather
held out for the weekend and the water has shot up to a balmy 18 degrees!
Some lovely scenic dives, every one was out to play. An Octopus gave us
an amazing camoflage display (Click images for an enlargements) and we had
fantastic visibility along the North-East Coast of Doubtless Bay.
| As we swam along the drop-off a large King fish came
for a look, a comical porcupine fish cruised around and then Jack
and Sallie were highly amused by a sleepy Red Moki which lazily took
off and bumped straight into a stalk of kelp! |

Fun Dive |
East Coast and Smokehouse Bay |
| Beautiful weather, two boats headed
out for 3 or 4 dives. Visibility ok, water temp averaging 14-15 degrees.
Lots of wildlife, birds working over schooling fish. Divers spotted loads
of life including crays, eels, anenomes and a friendly wrasse which allowed
Jack and Petrina within touching distance. Great day had by all. |

Fun Dive |
McGregor Rock |
| A pod of approx 6 Orcas escorted us to our dive
site which was unsurprisingly quite sparsely populated with fish! We still
had a good dive however with crayfish and a very large puffa fish putting
in an appearance. |

Club Dive |
Smokehouse Bay and outside Taemaro Bay |
| 3 boats and 7 club members headed out on Sunday
morning and enjoyed a couple of dives, first in Smokehouse Bay and then
a second outside Taemaro Bay. It was a chance for a couple of members to
experience their first open water dives and apart from some excellent yoyo
impersonations at first, buoyancy skills were mastered and the dives were
enjoyed by all. Jack made our day by providing several crayfish and Sallie
provided the entertainment. (But you'll have to show
up at the next meeting to find out more! ;-) |

Fun Dive |
Taupo Bay |
| Before the monthly dive meet, a few members got
together for a club dive. Kevin Butler, Simon Banks and Jack, Ben and Josie
Sutton drove out to Taupo Bay (Doubtless Bay was extremely messy) for a
leisurely dive around the western headland. Whilst gearing up on the beach,
a local approached the club and asked for assistance pulling up a cray pot
that was stuck on the bottom around the point a bit further - Kevin, Simon
and Ben headed out with him on his boat to rescue the pot whilst Josie/Jack
stayed at beach to do the planned dive. The Cray pot divers successfully
retrieved the pot for the local; at one point the water temp was 14 degrees.
Lots of Leatherjackets around along the coast. They also got one Cray and
a packhorse. Josie/Jack had 16 degrees water temp in Taupo Bay, and got
one Cray, very little marine life around in Taupo Bay though. |

First Club Dive |
Berghan's Point |
| 8 club members set out on our first club dive
on Sunday, it was a slow journey as the sea was pretty rugged in Doubtless
Bay but it was beautifully calm around the corner at Berghan's Point. The
visibility on the dive was excellent and the water was a balmy temperature
for this time of year. Great viz, sightings of spanish lobsters and moray
eels as well as hundreds of schooling fish around the divers, ensured that
a great time was had by all. |
